Black Political Thought: Controversy Erupts as Malcolm X Outed as Bisexual Man During Britain's Black History Month Celebration

    I could believe that the pre-Islamic Malcolm X was a bisexual/homosexual.

If the tales of his reforms as a Mulsim are true then it also stands to reason that he repudiated this lifestyle along with the other antics that he saw as destructive and undisciplined.
Politically, he gravitated to the left and after his trip to Mecca, he began to embrace a non-racial mainstream Islam.
Marc Lamont Hill strikes again. Malcolm X, like the NOI today can only becalled "leftists" as it relates to their views of demanding justice against White Supremacy in the context of the United States.

While their economic views could be considered "communal" it is done in the context of their own group not in the spirit of government welfare.

Their social views, however are not leftist. In fact Hill would likely disagree with the significant portions of their social policies.

Constructive Feedback -- I have no doubts that Malcolm X had homosexual relationships, but there is no way he would have been allowed to join the Nation of Islam unless he repudiated that "lifestyle." I don't see his achievements in terms of his sexual orientation. I see him for the man who sought to empower blacks in this country. You are correct in your analysis. It seems to me that the NOI is leftist, as you have correctly stated, in terms of combating white supremacy, but they are pretty conservative on many other issues and yes, that includes accepting the GLBT in their ranks.

I find this "new found" information remarkable as it seemed to completely elude the Hoover-goons, CIA, and every other covert spy-type information agency in the US. Just wonder how it got passed them; and I really wonder why they didn't leek it sooner. Just makes me wonder, why now?

SJP -- Considering the there was rumors about Hoover's own sexuality, I think they let sleeping dogs lie. I really did not know that Malcolm X had homosexual relationships in his early life. I guess the people fighting against Malcolm X and civil rights did not know or else they would have certainly tried to discredit him on the basis of his sexuality. This makes for very interesting debate.

While I understand the logic, it just seems very unlikely that Hoover would have kept this a secret because of being afraid of being outed. Hoover's sexuality was the well-kept DC secret that everybody knew; and even the Kennedys couldn't touch him. I just find this news a tad bit too remarkable to believe. But, having said that, I guess I'd have to ask Bruce Perry "and your point is what?"

At this point in time does it really matter? Really? We know that during that particular time-if he had openly admitted that he was bisexual or even gay, NOI wouldn't of been the only group that rejected him. Black America would of rejected him as well.

I have to agree with SjP on the points that she raised about Hoover. I tend to question why he wouldn't of used this information? At that time, I seriously doubt if Hoover would of been worried about someone outing him. He was powerful and vicious enough to be feared.

Personally, I don't really care. MLK was a womanizer. They both were human beings-not super men or without faults.
