Black Political Thought: Singer Leona Lewis Told to Leave London Store Because Her Father is Black

    Janet,

I am from a bi-racial family. Even though I am Black and other members are either bi-racial or White, this is probably not the first time the Leona has met with open prejudice. It might be the first time that she has been in a position to make good use of her profile to draw attention to it. I bet if we could look at her life and see how people have responded to her parents over the years or even her-there's probably been other times when people have disrespected her,mom or dad due to their race.

If she is not going to pursue any legal recourses that are available to her-then this is nothing but noise in the atmosphere. The shop owner obviously had no clue what she does or the exposure that she has had as an artist. If there is a way to make the woman pay for the insult-Leona needs to handle her business in the matter.

Msladydeborah -- I have no doubt that this isn't the first time Ms. Lewis has encountered racism, but this is a good opportunity for her to use her name to shed light on this. I am surprised that she chose not to reveal the name of the store and that she did not leave. I would not have wanted to make a purchase at that point and I would have gladly told others about this, so that they are aware of the racist behavior of this store owner.

I'd have banners all over my Web site about not visiting this store. She needs to get her web master on that immediately!

Shamontiel -- I hear you. I am surprised that she still stuck around and her
father had to pull her out of the store. Like you said, it would be all over
my website. I am also surprised that she chose not to reveal the name of the
store. I would have been so mad, I would have called my publicist to find a
way to get the word out.
